Grief-stricken parents Allen (Pierce Brosnan) and Grace (Susan Sarandon) Brewer are shocked when three months after the death of their son, a young woman named Rose (Carey Mulligan) shows up on their doorstep, pregnant with his child. At first Rose’s arrival threatens to tear the family further apart, but eventually she proves to be the very thing that brings them back together.
